Religious Education

Vision for Religious Education

Our Vision is explained by Jesus’ words in the Parable of the Lamp - Matthew 5:15-16 (NIV). “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

At our school we aim to teach our children to let their light and the light of others shine brightly, as explained in our new school prayer. We want to educate our children to display our Christian Values in a way that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Tolerating other faiths and religions by learning about the similarities and differences will equip our pupils to thrive in today’s multi-cultural society.

What is new?

This year we have devoted our Thursday afternoons, to our Religious Education curriculum. Our whole school delivers and effective Religious Education curriculum which is followed by our whole school collective worship.

We have begun to purchase new bibles for our whole school to share on a Thursday afternoons. We have purchased a range of bibles so far including: the Minecraft bible, the Heroes bible and the brick bible so that our children can enjoy the bible in different formats.

Subject Priorities

1)      To ensure that children gain a deeper understanding of different world religions and how there are similarities and differences across these religions.

2)      To effectively embed the new Leicestershire Agreed Syllabus (2021-2026) and ensure that staff have a good understanding of ways to deliver this, and children are secure in the new knowledge learned.

3)      To allow the children to experience RE in a more practical sense, with visitors of different faiths coming into school, children going out to different places of worship and children being given the opportunity to immerse themselves in different cultures.
