Personal Social Health and Economic Education
Vision for PSHE and RSE
For all students to develop an understanding of the ever changing world in which we live, develop the skills necessary to take an active role in their community and manage their life effectively.
The teaching of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members within their society. Our teaching aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.
What's new?
Since September 2020, health and relationships aspects of PSHE teaching has been made compulsory for all children. This means that mental health and wellbeing, physical health (including healthy lifestyles and first aid) and learning about safe, healthy relationships, including understanding consent and negotiating life online will all be taught throughout schools, with topics and subjects taught appropriately to key stages and year groups.
We now follow an exciting and comprehensive scheme of work called SCARF, which is based on the following 5 principles - Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. All children across the school will be doing the same topic each half term at an age appropriate level.
We are currently working on achieving a gold award for PSHE. This covers exciting opportunities, involving equality, diversity and inclusion along with a mental health and well being focus.
Subject priorities
1) High quality teaching and learning -
To ensure that children receive high quality PSHE and RSE education each week which is embedded into the curriculum and delivered using quality materials and resources.
2) To use dojo, twitter and the website
To ensure that staff are using dojo, twitter and the website to keep parents informed.
