Vision for Geography
 
At All Saints it is our aim to ensure our children are knowledgeable about the country and the world that they live in.  Whether that be knowing the names of the continents, countries or major cities, understanding how different places are similar and different or even how to successfully navigate themselves using a map, strive to ensure all of our children are inspired to become Geography experts. We are placing a great emphasis on providing the children of All Saints with high quality, rewarding and inspiring opportunities to learn new skills. What is new?
 
We have brand new, updated (2022) KS1 and KS2 atlases; this is very exciting as we will be using them for each geography lesson. 
 
  
Subject Priorities
1) Locational knowledge of the UK in KS1 and Europe in KS2 - as a school we need to make sure that our children understand where our country is located in relation to the rest of the world. They also need to have a good grasp of where key cities, seas and rivers are located in the UK. In KS1, our children need to be able to locate the 7 continents and 5 oceans. In KS2, our children need to be able to locate major cities and capitals in Europe.
 
2) Geographical fieldwork skills - our children will have the opportunity to use maps on local walks and will also have the chance to create their own maps.
 
3) Comparing 2 geographical locations - our children will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of countries around the world.

    Hi everyone!
    I am Mrs Green and I teach Lions class in Year 6. I also have the pleasure of leading the subject of Geography, which has always been a passion of mine. 1) Video 1 - Learn about the continents, equator and northern and southern hemisphere.

2)  Video 2 - Looking at different settlements - Cities, towns and villages    
Challenges
How are different types of settlements connected?
What is the difference between villages, towns and cities?
Which settlement would you prefer to live in?
 
3)  Video 3 - Map skills
Challenges
Can you draw and label some of the symbols you will find on a map?
Can you draw a compass – remember to have North at the top?
Can you draw a map of your local area?
