Egyptian Party

17th December 2015

This afternoon Herons had 24 family members attend our Egyptian Showcase, where they were able to take part in various activities and learn about what the children have been doing over this half term in their 'Temples, Tombs and Treasures' topic.

The afternoon started with a demonstration of the mummification process, carried out by the children. This was followed by some energetic Egyptian dancing. Some of the adults had some excellent moves and Jake's Grandad was a particularly talented dancer!

Next, everyone had the chance to try some Egyptian foods, including the Egyptian Honey Bread that the

children had cooked themselves. There were mixed reactions to the bread, but the fresh fruit platter and the dates they tried we definitely a hit.

The children taught the adults how to play Mancala, the oldest game in the world. There was some obvious competition involved, and everyone was keen to get their beads into their goal to win the game.

To finish the afternoon off, teams of four took part in a Who wants to be a millionaire Challenge answering questions about Ancient Egypt. The winning team, who called themselves the Kufus scored 100% and won the £100,000. It was a very close contest and everyone enjoyed taking part.

Everyone had a great time, and at the end of the afternoon, the children presented Miss Martin with a card to wish her luck in her new school as today was her last day with us until she returns in March. It was lovely to see the children and their guests having such a lovely end to an exciting topic.
